The inaugural exhibition in the newly re-located
Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography.

Herb Lubalin (1918–1981) is best known for his wildly illustrative typography and his groundbreaking work for the magazines Avant Garde, Eros, and Fact.

On view in Cooper Union’s new gallery, the installation includes recent posters, publications, and motion graphics by internationally recognized graphic designers that spotlight an emerging trend toward expressive lettering and typography.

Original sketches, magazines, logotypes, and posters selected from the Lubalin Center Archive will illuminate Lubalin’s influence on contemporary graphic design.

Publication Studio

A really interesting project a friend is doing in Portland.

Publication Studio prints and binds books on demand. We also build a public around the books we make by hosting social gatherings and conversations, both live and digital. We make original books with writers and artists whose work compels us, or as a fee-based service for others interested in publishing perfect-bound books in small runs. We plan, design, print, and bind books from 6 am – noon, Monday to Saturday, in our Portland, Ore., storefront at the Ace Hotel, SW 10th Avenue and Stark Street.
Publication Studio was founded and is run by Matthew Stadler and Patricia No.

Chicago StoreFront Residency

A project I'm starting next week!!!
Come say hello if you're in Chicago.

Life Long Work Week is a project to promote the idea of artist collaboration in a public setting. We plan on taking over retail storefronts, galleries, fairs, and anywhere else people gather.

Experiment #001:
From September 7th through the 13th in Chicago, IL artist/designers Jesse Brown and Chad Kouri will transform the Renegade Handmade storefront into their work space for one week. During this time the two of them will be creating new collaborative work which will be available at the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago on September 12th & 13th
Both Artists will be working in the space from 11-7pm each day.

Artist Bios+

Chad Kouri is a living breathing mobile human being in the great city
of Chicago. When not working on commissioned illustration and design
work, hand lettering poorly spelled phrases, Art Directing Proximity
Magazine, rockin out on found object installations / collage pieces,
or blog jammin, space touring, curating and high-fivin with The Post
Family crew, he hibernates like the great grizzly.

Some lovely items can be purchased HERE

Since 2003, when we were not being graphic designers, we have been cutting and pasting from our front room in London. Making paper goods and selling them far and wide. It reminded us of being small; sticking tin foil to cereal cartons and the dog, but hopefully with more professional results.

The work for this show looks amazing, do not miss.

Ghost of Plants

New Work from Heidi Anderson

Opening Reception Friday, May 8th at 7.00 PM

Show runs from Friday May 8th-Sunday May 17th.

Heidi Anderson’s work is of a parallel world where her visions are rendered into fantastical apparitions. Spirits come to life in vivid color and float freely in atmospheric landscapes that reflect inner realms, personal mythology and an appreciation for the mysteries of nature.

Heidi Anderson was born in Seattle, WA. She received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2003. Heidi has shown work in San Francisco, Brussels, London, Berlin, Copenhagen, Miami, and most recently at the Salon Du Dessin Contemporain in Paris.
